We would like to let all the sub-comms know each other better through this event. You would not only get to know people frbut have fun at the same time! As for what games we have planned, you might get to know from the investiture itself. But, we promise you that there will be a BARBECUE after all the games! Do have a heavy breakfast because lunch will not be provided!

All A&F IG Sub committee members! The first term of an academic year has just passed, hope you all are doing well. With the start of the new academic year, the A&F Interest Group has organised the very first event for its sub committee members. The main committee members of A&F IG intend to start the year off with the A&F Investiture and General Meeting, which is held annually. We are going to tell you what exciting events awaits you in the next coming academic year too! The investiture is a ceremony to welcome our new sub committee members into the A&F Interest Group. This would be a compulsory event for all sub committee members as we would like all of you to know what things you would expect, and what we would expect from you as a sub committee member.

The details of the Investiture are provided below:
DATE: 21st JUNE 2011
TIME: 2.15pm
VENUE: Outside LT 19
DRESS CODE: Smart Casual (i.e.: minimum jeans/pants with t-shirt, NO SLIPPERS)

You would be receiving your new sub committee shirt on that day. Please remember to bring extra cash, about $7~$10, for the shirt. Also, the main committee members have decided to implement a new system for the sub committee members. IRAS is looking for 15 students to work from 8 March to 17 April 2010 at our Contact Centre. The hourly rate is $6.50 and basic tax training will be given before they start handling phone-calls from tax-payers.

Anyone who's keen to do the following:

1) Email to Ms Low Chun Ling at chunling@iras.gov.sg to indicate your interest in the tax temp job from 8 Mar to 17 Apr.

2) In your email, say that you're from TP and found out about this job through Mr Chan Seet Meng.

UPDATE TO RULES AND REGULATIONS

We have just updated a new set of rules and regulations for GETFIT DAY AY09/10.
Participants, please help yourself to get a copy of the updated rules & regulations.

Reason for updates include:
1) Changed from min 2 girls to take part to min 1 girl.* as some of you informed us that it is quite tough to get 2 girls in your team.

*terms and conditions applied (please see handout given).

2) We have edited the language for clearer understanding. Apologise for the inconvenience caused.

We will be re-issuing the new set of rules on Tuesday. Alternatively, for those who are unable to collect the new set, feel free to help yourself to the new set of rules by downloading from this link. You are not required to print it but you should familarize yourself with the rules. ^^

To all A&F IG Memebers,
TPSC is organizing a TP wide event named as Team Temasek Day. They are seeking our help in wearing red to mark that day. More details are shown below. So remember to wear red to show your support :D

The Temasek Polytechnic Sports Club (TPSC), supported by SAA, will be organizing a TP-wide event, Team Temasek Day, on 5 January 2009, which coincides with the start of the Inter-Varsity/Polytechnic Games (IVP). This event aims to create a strong sense of institutional pride, as well as instil a vibrant TP spirit among staff and students alike.

The Team Temasek identity was originally created to build a team identity, foster institutional pride, and promote a sporting culture among the sports teams in TP. However, we are expanding the identity to include all TP students, especially those not engaged in competitive sports, so that they can be an integral part of the dynamic and vibrant family that we call Team Temasek.

Team Temasek Day will be an excellent platform through which the Team Temasek identity is celebrated and enhanced. As a show our TP spirit and Team Temasek identity, we are encouraging all students to don a red shirt/t-shirt on Team Temasek Day, 5 January 2009. For those without red shirts, limited numbers of red Team Temasek t-shirts will be on sale at the Plaza on a first-come-first-served basis. There will also be a large banner at the Plaza where students can pledge their support for Team Temasek with their signatures.

We seek your support for this event by asking your help to encourage your members to don a red shirt/t-shirt on Team Temasek Day, and also to pledge their support on the Team Temasek banner at the Plaza on 5 January. Invitation to Participate in ACCA's CFO Challenge for A&F IG

Hi.. Guys..

ACCA Singapore will be launching a thrilling new accounting and business game, ACCA’s CFO Challenge in November 2008 and we would like to invite you to take part in this game.

Please organize 4 teams as follows and submit the names of the team members to us by 7 Nov 08, Friday :
2 teams from year 1
2 teams from year 2

Each team will comprise 3 students:
CFO (Team Leader)
Accounting Manager
Finance Manager

Details of the CFO Challenge:

The important dates for ACCA’s CFO Challenge are:
19 November, Wednesday – Launch Event for ACCA’s CFO Challenge
17 December, Wednesday – Qualifying Round
10 January, Saturday – Semi-Final
17 January, Saturday – Grand Final

The detailed structure of the game for further information is as follows:

Qualifying Round
The qualifying round will be held on the 17th of December 2008.
There will be a 60 minutes written test comprising of multiple-choice and open-ended questions.
Each participant from the teams will have to take the test and the top 6 teams with the highest aggregate scores will make it to the Semi-Final.

Semi-Final
The Semi-final will be on the 10th of January 2009 (Saturday).
This will be held theatre-style in an auditorium setting with supporters of the different institutions attending, together with key ACCA stakeholders.
The Semi-Final is expected to last for 90 minutes.
The Semi-final will be in form of a quiz-style game testing students’ knowledge on accountancy and finance.
The quiz will comprise questions from a range of topics relating to the functions of the CFO: Corporate Reporting, Business Law, Taxation, Corporate Finance and General Knowledge.
Quiz Mechanism:

o The teams will attempt the questions in a pre-defined sequence.
o At their turn, the team will choose a question category and attempt the question from that category (subject to question availability).
o There will be a total of 18 questions in all the question categories and each team will have at least 3 attempts to answer a fresh question
o Once the questions in a category are exhausted, the category will no longer be available for selection
o 10 points will be awarded for each correct answer. No penalty for incorrect answers or unanswered questions
o If a team cannot answer, or answers the question wrongly, it will be open to the other teams
o On the mark of the game host, the teams must race for their buzzers to answer the question
o If the wrong answer is given, the host will give a clue and the question will be asked again to the remaining teams
o If the answer is wrong again, the host will reveal the answer and skip the question
o Again, 10 points will be awarded each correct answer
o However, 5 points penalty will be imposed for a wrong answer
o There will also be bonus questions in the event of a tie between the teams

The top 3 teams from the Semi-Final will make it to the Grand Final
The winning teams will each be given a business scenario / case study upon the completion of the Semi-Final which they need to prepare for the grand finals

Grand Final
The Grand Final will be held on the 17th of January 2009 (Saturday)
There will be both a quiz and presentation segment
The quiz segment is identical to the Semi-Final, except that there will only be 9 questions and 3 teams.
For the presentation segment, the presentation sequence is based on the scores of the team from the quiz segment (team with highest score to go first)
The teams will take their turns to deliver a 15 minutes presentation to the judging panel to convince them of their views, opinions, analysis and strategies regarding their pre-assigned case studies
Presentations and any other files needed for presentation must be submitted beforehand for uploading to the game-master’s computer. This is to ensure minimal downtime and fairness among the teams in the competition.
Presentations must be done in Microsoft PowerPoint format files and presentation clickers will be provided for use during presentation.
The panel will then have 10 minutes to question the team on their presentation and the team will be required to answer the questions posed.
The sessions will be judged based on a scoring system designed to take into account the content of the presentation, the arguments made, the way questions were responded to, the overall presentation skills displayed and the overall performance of the team.
The team which accumulates the most points both in the quiz as well as the presentation segment will win ACCA’s CFO Challenge.

Sparking juice?

Hi People,

Any one of you wanan have sparkling juice on the 3rd night (BBQ and Bon Fire Night) ?

Then we can 'yum seng' & also sing 3 cheers....

But then, the thing now is that i can't take the money from IG funds. At such, unless i have a majority like 25 people then i will get it. & OF COURSE, we will have to spilt the COST among the people (as i won't be able to get from ig funds).... Then i will buy then u all pay me back on 6th October, 2008

The poll will start from now till the end of Sunday as i will have to know the no. of people who want. If i am not wrong, the cost for each bottle is $3.90 or something like that.

FYI - sparking juice is NOT alcohol. You people (majority) are underage. Sparking Juice is carbonated juice + fruit juice. [don't after that say kor kor bluff you] - lols!

IG Chalet and BBQ

hey people,

i apologise for the part where we only invited the main comm.. because previously, we thought of booking Coasta Sands (Downtown).. and because it's like damn small.. we scared cannot squueze everyone in..

but now, we booked Aranda.. so all ig members are welcome.. :)

However, because we cannot order the food any later after 3 days from the date of the chalet (22nd Sept, 2008 - Monday), we can only have a maximum of 20 Pax coming for this chalet.

So if you guys are coming, please tag at the tagboard so that we know.. if you did not tag, we will assume that you are not coming.. This will be done on a first come first serve basis. You can start tagging from now till we reach 20 pax.

Hi Volunteers,

I have received feedback that the item jeans in the to bring list is not of much use for the Overseas Community Service Trip. At such, you may bring the items at your own discretions. Again, the list is just a guide. If you think you do not need, then you may not bring. HOWEVER, you have to bring the "must bring" items still.

We need to design a banner for our community service in Bintan. I've uploaded a picture containing 2 samples for your reference.

Please help to come up with more design ideas. We need your help by designing and sending your designs to us by Sunday (to our ig email). Sorry no prize for selected design(s) but it will be published in many of our photos.

We really hope to see you participating in this ^^

Sun day will be the date line as the advisors need to get it approved and call for quotations to make the banner.

The "to bring list" that was given is an estimate (for the qty). Therefore, you can bring extras if you think you will needing more. Also, you may bring addition items that are basic necessities to you that may not be listed in the list.

LIGHT STICKS

Hey Volunteers,

Just a suggestion:

If you all like, you all can go buy some light sticks. I believe it will really look nice when we are at loola where we do not have city lamps.

So, maybe you all can buy in a box with your friends. That way, the cost per light stick will be reduced. However, light sticks are not really cheap though. So if anyone of you know where we can get cheap light sticks, don't mind sharing with us the location and cost okay ? ^^

Btw : Just found out ~ it costs $1.60 per stick. Pretty Expensive. So if you all know where can get cheaper.. then do share ya?

"Pass it on" Campus Relay 2008

1. Rules of the event
The competition shall be conducted in accrodance with the Technical Rules & Regulations of the Singapore Amateur of Athletic Association(SAAA) and the General Rules and Regulations of the Human Resource and the Staff Development Department, Temasek Polytechnic.

2. Date and Venue
The competitopn will be conducted at Temasek Polytechnic Triangular Garden on Friday, 31 October 2008.

3. Registration of Participants

3.1 Registration must be done on prescribed entry forms which are to be submitted to the HRSD Department through the School/Department Wellness Facilitators / SAA by Friday, 29th August 2008.

3.2 Each team comprises 8 runners.
Each team must have the following combination:
(a) At least 3 staff(including 1 Management Staff - Section Head and above)
(b) Up to 5 students
(c) At least 2 female rnners (staff or student)

3.3 Schools are encouraged to form Diploma teams with student runners. Administrative Departments may form teams with students from the Schools or form teams comprising of staff only.

3.4 Team Captain must be a staff member

4. Competition Rules
4.1 The start and end points are near the Koi Ponds at the Triangular Garden. The total distance covered for the competition is 8.95 km. See attached Route.

4.2 The first 7 runners will be required to complete 1.15 km with the management staff running the last leg is a shorten route of 700 m. The following shows the pre-determined sequence:

1 Female
2 – 7 Staff or Student in any order of gender
8 Management Staff

4.3 The team to complete first will be declared the winner.

5. General
5.1 Check Points
All check-points along the race will be manned by officials who will record the number tags of the runners. The Team whose runner(s) are caught taking short cuts without running through appropriate check-points will be disqualified from the race. All results will therefore be deemed void.

5.2 Postponement
There will be no postponement of the competition except under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the Organizer.

5.3 Prizes
Trophies will be awarded to the top 6 teams and the Best Diploma Team.

Please check your mail box for the latest annoucement from the IG. Also, please remember to bring $200 ( for those have not paid the 1st deposit). For those who have already paid, remember to pay $100 for the balance. Any balance after the trip, will be refunded back to you.

It has been confirmed! we have gained the support from CPA Australia and they will subsidise part of our expenses for the overseas community service..

Instead of paying $330, you will be paying less than $200 now! :)
Therefore, the maximum you will have to pay is $200/-

Anyway, we have 5 more vacancies out for grabs.. :) Do persuade your friends to go for this event Tell them that they can use their PSEA (Edusave) but it is on a reimbursement basis. They are allowed to come for the briefing on the 15 Sept even if they have not signed up yet. If they have any enquiries, ask them to visit this blog or email us :)

Briefing will be Monday, 15th September 2008 from 12 to 2pm.. Rm 26-04-19/20 (take note of the change in the venue).. so if you are interested, join us for the briefing.. :) You may bring any of your A&F Friends along even if they have not signed up yet!! (other than yr3 as they will not be able to join us as they are having their SIP)

This is a once in a lifetime experience.. hope you guys will join us and help people while having fun.. :)

seriously speaking, i dunno what it is about.. i just know is a camp.. and you will be interacting with people from the Diploma in Mechatronics.. that's all that i know..

it's like the bsc camp. if you ask me, i will also tell you that i dunno anything about it.. the reason being is that we are not the organisers, we are the participants.. that's why, we dunno..

for the sub comm workshop, when you guys ask what it is about, we can answer them.. mainly because we are the ones who plan the event out, so we know what we will be having..

i received a mail from Sunny on sunday.. printed the email and wanted to discuss with you guys on monday after the Main/Sub Workshop.. but i forgot.. anyway, i have copied and pasted the mail below.. do check it out and if you are interested, give me your names and i will submit to sunny.. :)

Hi all presidents and vice presidents!

BSC has a upcoming project called Smile A Wish and we would like to collaborate with all IGs for this project. In order to do so, we seek all IGs to send a representatives to work with us. Smile A Wish is a major charity project.

The representative must be able to commit to this project during the period of Sept - Jan. So it cant be a year 3 having SIP. Must be willing to take up the project. I don't think its very nice if we force someone to do something they dun like. so yup.

Job scope:

They will be part of the organising committee of this major charity project. As organising committtee, they will be needed to help develop general concepts for the project. They are needed to attend meetings and help out throughout the whole planning process.

So yup.. pres and vps do discuss and send a representative for this major project. Get back to me by fri? Thanks!
